Parents can create chores, assign tasks to individual children or the whole family, set point values, create rewards, and manage routines. Kids can choose their profile, see their chores, complete tasks, earn points, and work toward rewards.
⚠️ Important: Chores Quest works locally in your browser and is designed for use on one device/browser at a time. It does not connect to the internet, cloud storage, or an online account, and it does not automatically sync between devices.

👧 HOW ASSIGNED TASKS WORK
When a task is assigned to specific children, each child completes the task separately.
For example, if “Make Your Bed” is assigned to two children, both children see the task. Each child must complete it individually, and each child earns the assigned points.
🏠 HOW FAMILY TASKS WORK
Family Tasks are shared by everyone.
The first family member who completes a Family Task earns the points, and that occurrence is then completed for the whole family.
This works well for chores such as unloading the dishwasher, taking out recycling, or cleaning a shared area.
🔁 RECURRING CHORES
Recurring chores appear according to their schedule.
If a child misses a recurring chore, that occurrence expires when the next scheduled occurrence arrives. The child does not earn points for a missed chore.
Recurring tasks do not remain overdue.
⏰ ONE-TIME & OVERDUE TASKS
One-time chores remain available until they are completed.
If the due date passes, the task is clearly marked OVERDUE so it is easy for both parents and children to identify.
⭐ POINTS & REWARDS
Children earn points by completing chores.
Parents can create their own rewards and decide how many points each reward requires. When a child claims a reward, the required points are automatically deducted from their balance.
Reward ideas include choosing dessert, picking movie night, extra game time, choosing dinner, or a special family activity.
🔒 OFFLINE & PRIVATE
Chores Quest does not require an internet connection, subscription, account, or cloud service.
Your family data is stored locally inside the browser on the device where you use the app.
Because browser data can be removed if site/browser storage is cleared, regular backups are strongly recommended.
💾 BACKUP & RESTORE
The Parent Settings area includes a JSON Backup & Restore feature.
You can save a backup of your family information and restore it later if needed. You can also use a backup to intentionally move your Chores Quest data to another device.
Chores Quest does not automatically synchronize between devices.
🚀 HOW TO START
Download the files, save the Chores Quest HTML file somewhere safe, and open it in a modern web browser.
Choose I’m a Parent to create your family profiles, chores, and rewards.
When children use the app, they choose I’m a Child and select their own profile.
A detailed PDF User Guide is included to walk you through the setup and features.

Chores Quest is intended primarily for use on one shared device/browser. It does not include cloud syncing, online accounts, email alerts, phone notifications, or push notifications.
A modern Chrome/Chromium-based browser is recommended.
